YB Datuk Nazri Tan Sri Abdul Aziz, the de facto Law Minister in his reply to the question raised during Committee Stage Debate in connection with the ex-gratia payment paid to the six judges is as follows:

1.   YAA Tun Mohamed Salleh Bin Abas        – RM5 million

2.   YA Datuk George Seah                            – RM2 million

Supplementary Question:

I asked  the de facto Law Minister, YB Datuk Nazri Abdul Aziz,  to clarify in this August House whether the six judges, that were sacked in 1987, have received their respective pensions and other entitlement.  Further, by paying the pension the Government has indirectly accepted that it was wrong in sacking the 6 Judges.

Minister replied that they have been receiving their pension all this while until today. The six judges have not been sacked but  they were asked to terminate their respective services.

1.   YAA Tun Mohamed Salleh Bin Abas        –  RM5,102.15 per month

2.   YA Datuk George Seah                            –  RM5,009.00 per month

According the the Minister they have also received payments for gratuities from the Government.

YB Datuk Nazri also quoted an excerpt of the Prime Minister speech in April 2008 during the special dinner held under the name of Bar Council and the cost of RM81,000 for this dinner was paid for by the government.

“Therefore, the government would like to recognise the contributions of these six judges to the nation,    their commitment towards upholding justice and to acknowledge the pain and loss they have endured.

“In recognition of the contributions of the six outstanding judges, the government has decided to make goodwill ex-gratia payments to them.”

I asked the said Minister whether it was the Cabinet’s decision to pay the RM10.5 million compensation to the ex-Judges.  His reply was that the Cabinet decided to pay compensation ot the ex-judges but the amounts were left to the ex- de facto Law Minister, the then Senator Dauk Zaid Ibrahim.
