Datuk Bandar pilihan rakyat adalah pilihan yang lebih baik
The present Datuk Bandar Kuala Lumpur, Yg Bhg Dato’ Ab Hakim Borhan, will be retiring at the end of this month. There was speculation that Yg Bhg Dato’ Ab Hakim Borhan will be extended for another two years.
My take is Yg Bhg Dato’ Ab Hakim Borhan will not be extended and Datuk Ahmad Fuad Ismail, the former Yang Di Pertua of Subang Jaya Municipal Council in 1997 and the present Director-General of the Ministry of Housing and Local Government will be the new Datuk Bandar KL. I am informed that he is a no-nonsense man.
Whatever the case may be, it is always my stand that the post of Datuk Bandar should be elected by the KL residents. In other big cities, the Mayor is elected by the people. Why must Datuk Bandar KL be appointed? Even the Prime Minister had to go back to electorate during General Elections.

Pendapat saya adalah tempoh Yg Bhg Dato’ Ab Hakim Borhan tidak akan dilanjtkan dan Datuk Ahmad Fuad Ismail, bekas Yang Di Pertua Majlis Perbandaran Subang Jaya pada 1997 dan kini Ketua Pengarah Kementerian Perumahan dan Kerajaan Tempatan akan dilantik sebagai Datuk Bandar KL yang baru. Saya diberitahu bahawa beliau seorang yang bersikap tegas.
Walaumacamana pun, pendapat saya adalah jawatan Datuk Bandar harus dipilih oleh penghuni KL. Di bandaraya lain, Datuk Bandar dipilih menerusi undi penghuni. Perdana Menteri pun perlu menghadapi pengundi-pengundi setiap Pilhanraya Umum.
