Yew Teong Look: old habit dies hard and shame knows no bound!

ytlthrowchairLembu punya susu, sapi cuba sekali lagi nak dapat nama!

On 13 May 2009 I received several complaints from the residents of Wangsa Maju, who had been following my blog, expressing their unhappiness that they had, once again, come across in the newspapers that Yew Teong Look was up to his old habit and trick once more.

Apparently this time he had called for a press conference “calling” for the re-opening of the old junction between Jalan Gombak and Jalan Meranti (toward Lee Rubber Primary School), giving the impression that he was the one who had initiated the process to help the people on this issue. Word must have somehow gone out that the re-opening of the junction will be happening soon and Yew Teong Look, once more, does not see it beneath him to try claim credit for it. I suppose old habit does die hard and shame knows no bound.

As the MP for Wangsa Maju, let it be known I personally do not believe that by holding such publicity with the newspapers will mean problems will be solved.

To be really effective, it has more to do with solving the people’s problems through the proper channel by communicating with the relevant authorities whether it is DBKL or the Federal Government and raising whatever issue directly with them and following up with official letters and constant reminders.

I feel that such unnecessary publicities are too time-consuming and the time and energy spent on such publicities could have been put to better use for the benefit of the constituents. For example, by doing research and highlighting interesting findings to keep fellow Malaysians informed of their rights and be aware of their surroundings. This is with a view that we will one day become and live in a well-informed society.

Below is a chronology of events initiated by my office for the re-opening of the said Jalan Gombak-Jalan Meranti junction and hope it will help set the record straight once and for all:

–   24 March 2009: I received a complaint from a resident in my blog regarding the sudden closure of the junction from Jalan Gombak into Jalan Meranti (towards Lee Rubber Primary School). I immediately telephoned an officer at Jabatan Kerja Awam and requested him to look into the possibility of re-opening the said junction.

–   27 March 2009: I followed up with a letter to the Pengarah of Jabatan Kerja Awam to formally request her to look into this matter.

–   30 March 2009: I posted a comment in my blog under DBKL Complaints Section that this matter had been brought to the attention of Jabatan Kerja Awam of DBKL.  (Update: 15-05-2009) The Pengarah Jabatan Kerja Awam acknowledged receipt of my letter of 27-03-2009 via their letter dated 31-03-2009.

–   08 April 2009: I sent a reminder letter to the Pengarah of Jabatan Kerja Awam. This letter was copied to Yg Bhg Datuk Ahmad Fuad bin Ismail, the Datuk Bandar of Kuala Lumpur.  (Update: 15-05-2009) It has now transpired that Jabatan Kerja Awam has responded to my letter of 27-03-2009.

–   09 April 2009: I posted a comment in my blog under the DBKL Complaints Section to inform the residents that this matter was still under consideration by Jabatan Kerja Awam.

–  27 April 2009: (Update: 15-05-2009) It has now transpired that the Pengarah of Jabatan Kerja Awam has in fact written to me to inform that it has referred this matter to the “Task Force Traffic” on the issue of reopening of the junction to Jalan Meranti and that she will let me know the decision of the said “Task Force Traffic” in due course .

–   13 May 2009: I sent a second reminder letter to the Pengarah of Jabatan Kerja Awam. This second reminder was also sent to Yg Bhg Datuk Ahmad Fuad bin Ismail, Datuk Bandar Kuala Lumpur.

–  14 May 2008: A DBKL officer informed me that the Technical Department of Jabatan Kerja Awam had already completed their study and came out with a plan to meet the request of the residents for the re-opening of the said junction. I am also informed that the said Plan will be tabled for final discussion at the meeting of The Task Force of Jabatan Pengangkutan DBKL.

15 May 2009:  (Update: 15-05-2009) I wrote a letter dated 15-05-2009 to the Pengarah of Jabatan Kerja Awam to apologise for sending the letter of reminder to her because Jabatan Kerja Awam has informed me that she already replied to my earlier letter.

20 May 2009: Officers of the Traffic Police, Jabatan Kerja Raya, Jabatan Pengangkutan Jalan and officers of the various department within DBKL will be represented in The Task Force.

Below is a letter dated 10 April from DBKL regarding the matter referencing my blog …

I have reason to believe that Jabatan Kerja Awam is receptive to the request of the residents to re-open the said junction. Let’s hope for an early happy-ending on this matter. The final outcome will be posted in this blog in due course.

I wish to put on record that this posting is not my wish to claim credit for this matter in a chest-thumping manner but to set the record straight in order to prevent the residents of Wangsa Maju from being misled.

I would like to express my sincere appreciation and thanks to the residents who have constantly kept me informed via my blog of the problems in Wangsa Maju and assisted me in making Wangsa Maju a better place for all.

With kindest regards,

Wee Choo Keong
