Press Release by Wee Choo Keong, MP for Wangsa Maju, on 18 May 2010

In Response To PAS Youth in Wangsa Maju

In 1973 PAS joined BN and fought the 1974 General Elections under the BN ticket, many PAS MPs, including Tok Guru YAB Datuk Hj Nik Aziz Nik Mat were elected. In 1977 PAS resigned from BN but none of the PAS MPs resigned so that by-elections can be held. At that time there was no prohibition under the law that when a MP resigned he or she could not stand as a candidate again in the by-election. PAS should have shown their leadership then by resigning as MPs and not calling others to do so.

PAS Youth in Wangsa Maju conveniently did not touch on my statement of yesterday over the stand taken by Tok Guru. Is it PAS’s policy to “Please don’t follow what PAS leaders did or do but follow what they preached or preach?” I don’t believe that this is the policy of PAS otherwise it will be most shameful to have such a policy when PAS always pride itself of being very Islamic, righteous and democratic. I believe that PAS will not condone double standard, corruption or corrupt practices and “sweeping under the carpet” allegations of corruption or corrupt practices whether in the PR or BN administration. Perhaps PAS Youth in Wangsa Maju do not share such policies and aspirations as PAS’s main body. Maybe PAS Youth in Wangsa Maju was misguided and led by the nose by the equally misguided.

PAS Youth in Wangsa Maju was also keeping extremely quiet about the said sand mining scandal involving the Selangor State owned company, Kumpulan Semestra Sdn Bhd (KSSB) and the criminal acts of pouring red paint onto YB Manikavasagam’s car, which acts have been seen as an act of intimidate or gagging a law maker over the said sand mining scandal. Further, said PAS Youth also did not condemn YAB Tan Sri Khalid Ibrahim’s statement in stating that YB Manikavasagam must accept the acts of retaliation since YB Manikavasagam made allegations of corruption against others on the said sand mining scandal.

Had the PAS Youth in Wangsa Maju called upon the top PR leaders like YB Lim Kit Siang, YB Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim and Tok Guru YAB Datuk Hj Nik Aziz Nik Mat to set up an independent body to investigate into the allegations of wrong doings or corruptions or corrupt practices in KSSB when the said scandal was exposed some 2 weeks ago, it would have shown its political maturity. However, it is better late than never for the PAS Youth in Wangs Maju to now call upon the said PR leaders to make clear their stand on the said sand mining scandal, which they have not uttered a word about it.

Last week YAB Tan Sri Khalid Ibrahim has said that he had instructed SELCAT to conduct an investigation into the said sand mining scandal. It is most disappointing that SELCAT will only start its public hearing on the said scandal in July 2010 some 3 months away.  It would appear that now SELCAT is crawling very slowly to investigate into the said sand mining scandal. This undue delay of 3 months will be construed by the rakyat as an attempt to cover-up the said sand minding scandal. Since SELCAT is crawling slowly, MACC should not wait for SELCAT to crawl and take the necessary actions to bring to book the culprits in the said sand mining scandal regardless of whether the culprits are exco members or ordinary rakyat.

I hope that the PAS Youth in Wangsa Maju will share my stand on the said sand mining scandal.
