Everyone can see that the Permatang Pauh by-election is unlike any other by-election.
It is the mother of all by-elections for the simple reason that BN is adamant about going all out to deny Dato’ Seri Anwar Ibrahim his rightful place in Parliament and ultimately his passage to Putrajaya.
Everything and anything that can be used by BN to achieve that objective will not be spared. To them, in their no-holds-barred policy, the dirtier the tactics the better it will be.
How else then does one explain some of the many coincidences that have suddenly cropped up leading to polling day? Beginning with the enactment of Sodomy II against Dato’ Seri, among others, to Saiful Bukhari swearing on the Koran on the eve of nomination day. To the arrests of PKR exco members in Perak on alleged corruption acts. To the arrogant statement by the son-in-law that BN is there to “bury” Dato’ Seri Anwar Ibrahim forever. To the culmination of tonight’s half-hearted and tiny reduction of the price of petrol by 15 sen to RM2.55 per liter at the stroke of midnight.
The question for this week then is:
Come Tuesday, 26 August 2008, should the good people of Permatang Pauh be so easily duped to unleash the deathblow to bring about the demise of Dato’ Seri Anwar Ibrahim’s political career, as planned by and announced through the son-in-law who is the seeming ‘heir’ to the throne?

Sesiapa pun boleh rasa bahawa pilihanraya kecil Permatang Pauh bukanlah pilihanraya kecil biasa.
Ia adalah pilihanraya kecil yang paling genting (mother of all by-elections) kerana BN cuba sedaya upaya untuk menolak kerusi wajar untuk Dato’ Seri Anwar Ibrahim di parlimen dan seterusnya Putrajaya.
BN akan mempergunakan kesemua cara supaya mencapai matlamat mereka. Bagi mereka yang mengamalkan amalan tidak terbatas, cara yang lebih kotor adalah lebih digemari.
Jika bukan, bagaimanakah mereka boleh menerangkan banyak kebetulan yang tiba-tiba muncul sebelum hari mengundi? Mula dengan dakwaan meliwat II, Saiful bersumpah dengan Koran sehari sebelum hari penamaan calon, hingga tangkapan ahli exco PKR Perak atas tuduhan rasuah, sampai kenyataan angkuh anak mertua bahawa BN akan mengebumikan DSAI untuk selama-lamanya.
Kemuncaknya adalah pengumuman sambil lewa penurunan harga minyak sebanyak 15 sen kepada RM2.55 seliter pada waktu tengah malam.

Pada tanggal 26 Ogos 2008, hari Selasa, patutkah orang Permatang Pauh yang mulia akan diperdayakan sebegini mudah untuk menamatkan riwayat politik Dato’ Seri Anwar Ibrahim, seperti yang dirancang dan diumumkan oleh anak mertua yang bakal menerima jawatan tertinggi?
