Update: 03-11-2010 Translation into Mandarin is at the bottom. Thank you Sem for translating this posting – Tsieh Tsieh.
Last evening at about 8:30 pm, the “Tourist” Minister, YB Datuk Seri Dr Ng Yen Yen was not present in Parliament to answer questions here on her “holiday trips” to 21 countries and 61 cities throughout her tenure as Minister of Tourism since 4th April 2009 and Homestay Programe. She has spent public fund totaling RM3.2 million for the “holiday trips”. She left it to the Deputy Minister, YB Datuk Dawos to face the music on her behalf.
The Deputy Minister was unable to answer many questions except to defend the indensible. I have asked several questions and received no satisfactory answers and they were as follows:
1. the RM3 million donation to the Shoe Makers Association by the Ministry to sponsor the Shoes Festival in PWTC KL in March/April 2010?
2. the damning report by the Auditor General regarding Homestay Programe where upgrading works of the houses were not carried out according to specifications with no supervision at all and issuance of Certificate of Registration for participants for such programe without proper check and control;
3. what are the benefits/results of the “Tourist” Minister’s “holidays trips” with her husband to the 21 countries that caused the nation RM3.2 millions;
4, the total cost of the Malaysian Pavilion in Shanghai Expo which has escalated to about RM45 million and the poor reception from the poor reception.
YB Anthony Loke, MP for Rasah, who has visited the Malaysian Pavilion was disgusted with the Malaysian Pavilion where the leaflets were printed with numerous mistakes like “We incite you to visit Malaysian Pavilion”. The poor Deputy Minister had to defend the mistake by saying the “incite” was the right word to use under the circumstances i.e. to to make visitors to the expo to come to visit our Malaysian Pavilion. What a poor try! May be he was instructed by the “Tourist” Minister to defend her.
If the “Tourist” Minister thought that she could get away by missing in action then she is up for surprises next week. During the Committee Stage of the Budget Debate I shall pursue the above and I am sure my fellow MP, YB Anthony Loke, and others will also do so.
