Malaysia's pavilion potentially invites another backlash by promoting Indonesian heritage in its design!

I reproduce below a comment by a reader of this blog called Choon who may be spot on with his observation …

“Recently, there was an Indonesian Student protest reported in the Star where rotten eggs were thrown at our embassy just because Discovery Channel used an Indonesian Bali dance to represent Malaysia. The Minister explained that this is discovery Channel’s mistake and not ours and Discovery channel has apologised. However, in spite of such experience, the Ministry of Tourism is still going ahead with the Indonesian Minagkabau design, therefore inviting another reason for such a protest and Ng Yen Yen  will not be able to get out of this as she still go ahead with such a design by foreigner inspite of having been warned that it is not Malaysian. This will harm Malaysia’s good reputation. One other thing I just cannot understand is why include a miniature golf course in the Malaysian Pavilion? Why Golf? Golf has no Malaysian identity and is not part of  the Malaysian culture! In fact if you need to add in a sports we are certainly better known for our Badminton achievements. Ng Yen Yen’s website showed there is “no comments” after her reports on expo’s matter. This is because she has rejected comments from viewers as efforts to make een very mild comments have been rejected.”

Ng Yen Yen is an embarrassment for Malaysia. Why is she so desperate to insist on getting Venturepharm Asia Sdn Bhd, a company controlled by her friend (Grace Chen Oyan Yun Shai)? Venturepharm Asia Sdn Bhd was also involved in the TechnoFund scandal under Ministry of Science. Ministry of Science has paid over RM2 million to Venturepharm Asia Sdn Bhd and suspended remaining payment of about RM3 million. It has been reported that Venturepharm was under investigation by MACC.

Until this day Ng Yen Yen has yet to explain her relationship with Grace Chen Oyan Yun Shai or Venturepharm Asia Sdn Bhd.

In the light of the protest, it is high time that Najib should stop this scandalous award of the building of Malaysia pavilion to Venturepharm Asia Sn Bhd, which has no track record in building a house let alone a pavilion.

Ng Yen Yen really tak malu! Why Minangkabau design for our pavilion. please don’t tell me that Malaysia has no heritage that her ministry had condone stealing the desing from Indonesia.

Why Venturepharm? No other companies with experience in building do a better job. Well, Grace Chen is Ng Yen Yen’s good friend. I rest my case.

Ng Yen Yen must tell us on what basis Venturepharm was awarded teh pavilion project. I do agree that until today Ng Yen Yen has not explained her relationship with Grace Chen (Taiwanese), who is the key person in Venturepharm.

The Minister of Tourism is just incompetent and should be removed in the light of this Malaysia pavilion scandal. Despite the revelation of this Venturepharm connected to TechnoFund scandal under other Ministry, Ng Yen Yen still push ahead for Venturepharm to build the pavilion using Indonesian Minagkabau design.

After Indonesian protested against the used of Bali dance by the Discovery Channel, Ng Yen Yen never seemed to learn. May be she has touch with the country because she is too embroiled with the MCA crisis involving Chua Soi Lek.

In view of the scandal, the PM should remove ng Yen Yen from Ministry of Tourism.

    Ha…Ha…

NYY couldn’t care less about the negative publicity about this Malaysian Pavilion as long as she and Grace “”benefit”” from the tender awarded.

She reckon her days are numbered in the Cabinet and she as to date has not reveal the “commitee” she said decide on the awarding of the tender.

Where is the transparency Mr PM?? You must do something before Indonesia send a team to China to protest in front of the Malaysia Pavilion then it will be too late and will make headlines across the world.

Ng Yen Yen is a national disgrace. She knew that Grace Chen was using Venturepharm as one of her companies to bleed Malaysian government for her own benefits and yet Ng Yen Yen did nothing to stop it.

Ng Yen Yen is not promoting Malaysia but has brought Malaysia into disrepute.

The PM should intervene and suspend the award of the Malaysia’s pavilion in Shanghai.

Today Star (pg W36) reported that a group calling itself “Benteng Demokrasi Rakyat”threatened to use sharpened Bamboo on Malaysians using Jalan Diponegora, Jakarta.

This is believed to be “soft reaction” by the authority on the Pendet dance advertisement in National Geography Channel.

ARE WE COURTING DANGER by showcasing Indonesia Minangkabau Culture in our Pavilion design??? They would accuse us of CULTURER THEFT and will cause grave concern to our Nation.

Imagine the impact should the demonstration be carried out during the EXPO duration…

Mr PM……. You still keep mum and let NYY destroy the Nation by supporting VenturePharm and Grace Chen!!!!!!

    STOP THE Pavilion construction!!!!

The PM should take immediate actions to sack Ng Yen Yen because she has screwed up the image of this country.

Further, the award of the project went to Venturepharm smelled a rat! Everybody knew that there was a unseen hand that manipulated the tender.

PM must stop this Venturepharm from proceeding with this scandalous project. This company is just a sham. It is controlled by Grace Chen, who is a very good friend of Ng Yen Yen. Grace chen is connected to many companies that have been awarded with projects in Malaysia and overseas, especially in China. Also projects involving Ministry of Tourism.

In the light of expo project awarded to Venturepharm under such strange circumstances, MACC please investigate Ng Yen Yen and I am sure we will know more things.

Then what is truly exclusively Malaysia’s ? Aren’t we have friends who are minang here? When i promote bah kut teh, nasi lemak, roti canai to my foreign friends, i believe our own recipe is different from those from singapore or indonesia. If our neighbouring countries react aggresively toward this, i think this not really whose sambals are spicier.. some party is benefiting from all this nonsense.. even negaraku is a stolen item? Promote badminton? Aren’t indonesian is famous for that too? Every country have their own uniqueness.. But then again the lines are not always parallel. If we fought over this, then….sigh…
