6 new Bills; 5 days left to debate

6 Rang undang-undang; diberi 5 hari untuk berbahas

This morning, the Government has tabled the Bills below for debate
during the remaining 5 days of this Parliamentary Session!

Pihak pentadbiran membentangkan Rang undang-undang berikut untuk dibahas dalam 5 hari yang tinggal lagi untuk sesi parlimen ini!

1. Rang Undang-Undang Suruhanjaya Perlantikan Kehakiman 2008
(Judicial Appointments Commission Bill 2008)

2. Rang Undang-Undang Suruhanjaya Pencegahan Rasuah Malaysia
(Malaysian Anti-Corruption Commission Bill 2008)

3. Suatu Akta untuk meminda Akta Pencen 1980
(An Act to amend the Pensions Act 1980)

4. Suatu Akta untuk meminda Akta Pencen Pihak-Pihak Berkuasa Berkanun dan Tempatan 1980
(An Act to amend the Statutory and Local Authorities Pensions Act 1980)

5. Suatu Akta Untuk meminda Akta Penyelarasan Pencen 1980
(An Act to amend the Pensions Adjustment Act 1980)

6. Suatu Akta untuk meminda Akta Saraan Hakim 1971
(An Act to amend the Judges Remuneration Act 1971)

It is most unfortunate that the Government did not give sufficient time for the people to study the two important Bills i.e. Judicial Appointments Commission Bill and Malaysian Anti-Corruption Commission Bill. The Government has no respect for Parliament because it has a good majority in Parliament.

Thank God that Malaysians had denied BN the 2/3 majority to amend the
Federal Constitution at will.

Nevertheless, I look forward to hear your valuable views to help me in the debate of the above Bills.

Thank you.

Ribuan terima kasih.

I heard that the ACA is suppose to be responsible to a small group from the MPs

    1) what is the composition of the small group? it should ideally be headed by opposition (or at least majority if member is from opposition). BN don’t worry. If you lose the next election, you can still head this committee to effect check and balance on behalf of the rakyat

    2) the composition of the committee should be subject to rotation periodically otherwise there could be entrenched vested interest

    3) the committee should submit detailed reports for all MPs to vet through and debated

BN omitted an important one, Rang Undang-undang Pilihanraya Kerjaan Tempatan.

The whole object of tabling the Bill in such haste was to ensure that the MPs do not have time to do any research and the debate will be minimum.

The MPS, whether from BN or PR, should stand up and throw out the bills unless more times are given to MPs to do research on the Bill. How could such important Bills like Judicial Appointment Commission Bill and the Malaysia Anti-Corruption Bill be passed through in such a rush manner.

The BN is an oppressive government.

However diluted the JAC and MACC is, we still need it passed.

Pakatan should make a point by voting against one of the other bills along with the 30 odd crossover MPs, and bring down the BN govt.
