Pakatan Rakyat MPs walk out of Parliament

Posted on August 28, 2008

BREAKING NEWS

A while ago, all the over 80 MPs from Pakatan Rakyat walked out of Parliament in protest of YB Dato’ Seri Syed Hamid Albar’s unwillingness to decide whether he would agree to refer the DNA bill to a Select Committee for discussion.

A Select Committe would provide an avenue for views from the public and other interested organisations to be tabled, discussed and considered. Why is it so difficult to see the beauty in this?

Just scrap the bullshit bill. Don’t make a mockery of our Parliament. MPs are elected by the people. This DNA bill is for politicians, not for the people.

what get my goat (to borrow the expression from Football Focus with John Dykes) about this bill is

    1) civil servants are granted immunity from wrong doings/mishandling provided they “acted in good faith”
    – any law granting immunity to people who have the responsibility to the public is bad law
    – fundamentally in democracy, all are suppose to be equal in law

    2) DNA is conclusive and indisputable evidence and not even to be questioned by the Court
    – avenue to justice is denied and legal proceedings to simplified
    – tainted evidence is not opened for question
    – loss of right to exercise mind of lawyers and judges

    3) police is the sole custodian of DNA database
    – lead to absolute power and you know what entails
    – DNA database should be separately administered as separation of duty enhance independence, both real and preceived

A lot of people say that this bill is to get Anwar. Right nor not, I don’t know. If it is then it is stupid to enact a law to serve a particular short term and individual objective but leave behind a legacy for subsequent people to bear the consequence

Our lawmakers are insulted. instead of being allowed to debate, formulated, review and revise legislation to create good laws, they are reduced to town councilors, charity workers, NGO and what not while bad laws, such as this DNA being pushed through without proper vetting

the Speaker is as guilty as the minister who erred in judgment and a lot of people are going to be victimised if this tragedy of a Bill is put through.

i thought nazri was loud and lack intelligence. but this guy is miles ahead in terms of stupidity.
first, he lost the island to the neighbour.
now, he has probably told google to take their business elsewhere with his censorship of the internet and this means loss of high quality jobs (with high pay of course).
can you find another minister as thick as him?

Unity is strenght ! Just show them that the new MPs are in Parliament for a specific function of representing the power at large and not merely a ‘rubber stamp’ like those in bn.

Point taken and let it be recorded in the hansard as such for the learning of the younger generations of how callous can the bn be when this bill goes against basic human rights.

YB, let them continue their antics and surely the day of reckoning is near. With the people power in play, nothing can stop the flow of change and we are near to witnessing a new dawn for Malaysia. We are all created equal with the same blood colour but how we use the given talents and to manage one’s life, that is the real issue.

Thus, let the small minded ministers in Parliament shout and scream for all they want. For we the rakyat knows that the coming change is unavoidable and it will be for good of every citizen who love this nation by wanting to protect it from being destroy by the cronies of bn. Continue to fight for justice and to stand for democracy for what is the use of peace (offered by bn) in the country when they take away your freedom ?
