DBKL, stop harassing hawkers, petty traders, DBKL tenants and others!

JOINT PRESS RELEASE OF THE 10 OPPOSITION MPs IN KUALA LUMPUR

The 10 opposition Members of Parliament (namely Bandar Tun Razak, Batu, Cheras, Wangsa Maju, Kepong, Titiwangsa, Lembah Pantai, Bukit Bintang, Segambut and Seputeh) met last night (25-03-08) at Federal Hotel. The following resolutions were unanimously resolved:

We, the 10 opposition Members of Parliament in Kuala Lumpur, note that two months prior to the 12th General Elections (GE) DBKL was very relax in taking actions against the hawkers, petty traders, DBKL tenants and others.

We also note that immediately after the completion of the 12th GE, resulting in the clear rejection of BN by the KL residents, DBKL swung into actions to victimize and/or punish the hawkers, petty traders and threaten to victimize and/or punish the DBKL tenants in the opposition held constituencies, for the miserable performance of BN in the GE.

We strongly condemn DBKL for involving itself in politics and taking such concerted actions to victimize and/or punish the hawkers, petty traders and DBKL tenants for exercising their democratic rights in the 12th GE to elect the 10 opposition MPs from PKR, DAP and PAS in Kuala Lumpur.

We call upon the Datuk Bandar Kuala Lumpur to immediately stop the political actions in victimizing and/or punishing the hawkers, petty traders and DBKL tenants for exercising their democratic to elect the MPs of their choice.

My salute to the 10 Opposition MP for their first whack on the “bermaharajalela” DBKL!The current score is 10-1, next we make it 11-0 by getting rid of the lone ranger MP from Setiawangsa. Then, the Datuk Bandar will realise who’s the boss.

It’s good to hear you 10 are in this together, because we have to stay together as the rakyat’s voice against the opposition’s (really, how could you guys be the opposition if the majority is you) FT Minister, who may or may not learn his lesson in the past election. Keep in contact with each other, because I do believe if an issue affects one constituency in KL, it will also be shared by others, and maybe a solution can be found for this problem.

err…I can’t say that I agree with this entirely.Yes, it would seem DBKL is penalizing these people, but then, if an offence has been committed, then surely it warrants a citation. As much as we harp on the govt to do its job well, citizens/businesses must also clean up their act and be law abiding. Are we condoning violations? I should hope not!Malaysians can’t have their cake and eat it at the same time.

Typical retaliation of small minds.Raykats, be mindful that you do NOT show any demonstration of affection at public areas lest they run out of ways to retaliate and decides to pick on you.How about enlisting the rakyats assistance to compile list whereby DBKL has failed the rakyats? Can the rakyats through the MPs then issue DBKL a BIG summon?Just a thought.

May I suggest the 10 Opposition MPs lead the way for the hawkers, street traders and other victimised people to boycott DBKL in terms of payments of every kind and any kind, fines, penalties and other forms of punishment. Bring the wretched BN-controlled City Hall regime to its knees by emptying their coffers. The term is BOYCOTT THE DBKL.Or better still, depose the Mayor of KL and institute City Hall elections.

If you break a rule and get caught, must paylaa. I’d say bravo DBKL. When BN was majority in KL, DBKL did not earn their keep. Parking like their grandfather’s road, open stalls haphazardly, throwing rubbish indiscriminately, anything sukahati. BN didn’t manage KL properly. It’s about time that DBKL clamp down and make KL like Singapore. Well, isn’t that what everybody wants? Look at Singapore, emulate them.DBKL, do your job, man and all the best!!

It’s time DBKL seriously enact a handbook that talks about all sorts of rules so that the people know what to and what not to do, every enforcer should not be their own judge and make their own laws just to “make money”. People would think that these law enforcers were finding faults just to get bribes.when everything black and white and published in local newspapers, little booklets/handbooks in various languages and also billboards, people will understand what to do and what’s not to do. Not by hearsay or word of mouth.

DBKL is all but dead. A decaying entity. get the mayor out and clorox the dbkl, it’s too dirty…get the last BN MP out too…that stupid Zulhasnan..useless…all benefiting for own cronies and pockets…KL is being raped of greenery daily, and the number of hillslopes being cut away is so heartbreaking.DBKL is a non-functioning entity…I called to question my neibor’s 4 year ongoing renovations and they say it’s his right. What about MY right to peace, a pollution free environment???The renovation, building laws are so lax, the enforcement officers are slleping on the job or just makan suap then they close the case even though there is no evidence of submission of plans…tutup mata…a resident can actually do everthing under the sun on his property, even spray varnishing his 20 over door in the front yard, never mind that the poisonous particles are carried by the wind into my house, my lungs, my kids’ lungs and leave tiny shellac droplets everywhere…in my hair, on my car, kill my plants off…such selfishness and ignorance and stupidity is still allowed to flourish…why can’t we have proper regulations like in the US, every contractor must adequately cover the work areas esp area where people have moved in????It is their right to renovate, but what about our rights too?? It is a god-given right to renovate and drill and break and renovate again and again for over four years and counting???according to DBKL…yes, Malaysians boleh…because kita kiasu dan kuat kasi under table money for DBKL to shut up…Talk about quality of life.

Not published in the Star. Well Star had to protect the power that be so that they will get a pad on the back.Such animportant thing can be ignored by the Star. What is the newspapers for? So the residents in KL should know about the Star. Its existence is not for the people but to protect BN leaders.

Angel_X – your suggestion to enact a handbook is very good, at least all above board and not subject to individual enforcement. Can be hard copy or put it online in all languages.

a blogger from Siber Party of Malaysia, came into my blog when I highlighted on this subject, and commented that you all are encouraging hawkers to break laws etc. As usual NST interviewed some choiced running dogs. You need to visit to make a comment on this.

of course it is good that DBKL do his job to stop illegal traders or other offences. the only thing is that duty is not carried out fairly. check it out friends, you will always see the chinese hawker stalls being raided where the mamak muslim shops and malay traders end of the same road being spared. i have even seen once where the dbkl authority walked to the ramli burger stall to ask him leave before confisicated the non-bumi kuih stall next to the burger stall. Is this what we want?
